A symposium on sound and listening
23rd - 25th November 2017
The Virtuoso Listener is a symposium that combines an artistic and a research based approach to the subjects of sound and listening. Over the course of three days, there will be concerts, lectures, screenings, sound installations and more, spread over several distinct venues and arenas in Trondheim.
Events that combine art and research are rare in a Norwegian context. The NTNU Department of Music has recently explored this combination with a series of research concerts, and The Virtuoso Listener this the natural expansion of this format.
As a collaboration between the NTNU Department of Music, Dokkhuset, Trondheim Sinfonietta and nyMusikk Trondheim, a wide and interdisciplinary program is presented ranging from themes of silence, noise, spectral music, choral works and sound prodcution to health, nature and animal life.
By inhabiting a series of arenas of highly distinctive character such as the Nidaros Cathedral, Dokkhuset, Rockheim and Cinemateket, as well as the city's streets and parks, each part of the program is granted its own format and artistic expression.
Throughout the symposium, representants of various different academic and artistic communities in Trondheim will engage with international musicians, composers and researchers. In doing so, the symposium hopes to activate new relations of collaboration and to contribute to the professionalization of cultural cross-pollination in Trondheim.
The program is geared towards a multitude of audiences in Trondheim, within and outside of the arts and academic communities. All events are open for the general public.
