A silent walk, listening to the natural sounds on the path between the Nidaros Cathedral through Bakklandet to Dokkhuset, guided by Michael Duch and Njål Ølnes.
How often are you aware of your surroundings and actually listen to what's going on around you? The concept of soundwalk was created in Vancouver in the 70s, pioneered by associates of the composer R. Murray Schafer. A soundwalk is about just that – being aware of and listening actively to your immediate surroundings. Michael Duch and Njål Ølnes will give us a short introduction before we silently walk from the opening concert at the Nidaros Cathedral to the official opening of the symposium at Dokkhuset.
Hildegard Westerkamp describes a soundwalk the following way:
“... any excursion whose main purpose is listening to the environment. It is exposing our ears to every sound around us no matter where we are.”
